Report - UK - Scottish Traffic Policy Worsening Climate Change Say Greens
Scotland,UK -TNN (UK) -2 Oct 2006: -- A report by Audit Scotland confirms that Scottish Executive will miss traffic stabilisation targets by a huge margin. Greens argue that this will lead to a massive increase in Scottish Greenhouse Gas emissions... The report points to a predicted 27% increase in traffic volumes, and Executive statistics published recently confirm that traffic levels are at their highest ever level... Mark Ballard MSP, Green Speaker on Transport, said: "The Scottish Executive set a target of stabilising road traffic on 2001 levels by 2021. Instead traffic levels are predicted to rise by over a quarter. Instead of investing in massive road projects like the M74 and Aberdeen Bypass we should be investing in providing transport alternatives to reduce car use."...
