* Germany - DAF to start trials of diesel-electric hybrid trucks next year
Germany -AutoIndustry (UK)/Les Echos (France) -16 Oct 2006: -- French business paper reported on 13 October that DAF, the Dutch subsidiary of Paccar, is developing a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain which will begin trials next year... PACCAR announced in March this year that it had targeted a 30% improvement in vehicle fuel efficiency for selected medium-duty applications over the next seven years, using hybrid technology being developed with Eaton Corp’s Hybrid Power Systems division... Operators, promises Paccar, will benefit from lower maintenance costs due to reduced wear on the hybrid trucks’ braking systems, as well as from lower fuel consumption...
