* USA - Future of Diesel - Cleaner fuel to benefit next generation
Jackson,MS,USA -The Jackson Clarion Ledger, by Jack Mazurak -Oct 13, 2006: -- Cleaner-burning diesel fuel required nationally by Sunday has won the praise of environmentalists and some in the trucking industry but its impact may not be significant for several years... Under an EPA mandate, 80 percent of on-road-use diesel must contain 15 or fewer parts-per-million of sulfur as of Sunday, down from 500 ppm... The government has been lowering sulfur content in fuels for years. It brought diesel down to the current 500 ppm in 1993. Gasoline has been stepped down from 300 ppm in 2003 to 30 ppm this year... By 2014 all forms of diesel - off-road use, marine and locomotive - will be required to reach pumps at 15 or fewer ppm...
