* USA - Feds probe release of noxious gas in Elizabeth
Newark,NJ,USA -The Asbury Park Press/AP -28 Sept 2006: -- A trucking company where a harsh gas flowed from a ruptured tank and sickened dozens may have been unaware the tank still contained some of the substance... The last of the 59 people taken to hospitals after being exposed to the sulfur dioxide were released Wednesday morning... The gas was released in an industrial area in Elizabeth Tuesday afternoon when a worker at a trucking company damaged a pressurized tank, the Elizabeth fire department said... The sulfur dioxide cylinder was being dismantled for scrap metal, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection...

* Australia - Toxic cargo trucked into city
Perth,Australia -NEWS.com.au, by Jim Kelly -Oct 01, 2006: -- Sea container loaded with 16 tonnes of highly toxic sodium cyanide was unwittingly trucked through Perth after a transportation bungle.The dangerous chemical was carted by Australian Gold Reagents from Kwinana to a yard in Bayswater on August 4 in a container that should have been empty... The blunder was discovered after a forklift was unable to lift the container off its trailer... A report by AGR said the incident was serious and the Bayswater yard was not on a dangerous-goods route... Sodium cyanide, widely used by the mining industry to extract gold from ore, is a poisonous chemical that can cause death if swallowed... The chemical should be transported only on designated dangerous-goods routes...
