Modular System - Europe - Considerable Interest in Longer Vehicle Combinations in
Warsaw,Polish -TNN (UK) -27 Sept 2006: -- Volvo Trucks is organising a seminar in Warsaw, on the opportunities offered by the European Modular System, EMS, together with the Swedish Road Administration and the Dutch Transport Ministry. This concept offers a safer and better traffic environment and lowers the burden on Europe's roads... With this concept two truck rigs can do the same transport work as three of today's shorter EU rigs. The modular system was developed by Volvo Trucks and Volvo Logistics, and it has been in use in Sweden and Finland since these countries' entry into the EU... In the Netherlands, the authorities have been carrying out tests on the modular system for some time now, and in November 2006 the trials will be concluded... Tests involving the European Modular System will soon also get under way in Denmark and in three of Germany's federal states. In addition, discussions are ongoing in many other EU countries... There is already an EU directive that allows EU vehicles to switch to longer rigs for operation in Sweden and Finland...
