Again - Russia/Belarus border - Rebellion in the Allies’ Camp
Russia -Energy Tribune (Houston,TX,USA) -May 31, 2006: -- Heated news about natural gas is coming out of Russia again, this time involving Belarus... Gazprom, the Russian gas monopoly, has just announced a new price of $200 per thousand cubic meters of gas for Belarus, starting in 2007, as opposed to its original offer of $147 per thousand cubic meters. Belarus did not miss a minute... On May 30 it started a silent blockade of all cargo vehicles crossing the Russian-Belarus borders in the direction of Kaliningrad – one of the main cargo shipping arteries. The action involves trucks loaded with goods liable for customs duties: alcohol, sugar, and cigarettes. On that day over a hundred cargo trailers were stuck at Belarus customs points with no reasonable explanation offered. Neither customs agents nor Belarus officials were available for comment... The question is, how will Russia react? It all looks like a Belarusian rebellion with no clear end, and it may be days or weeks before the clouds dissipate...
