Expects - USA - Freightliner to make fewer trucks in '07

USA - eTrucker, by Linda Longton -28 Mar 2006: -- Freightliner’s Class 8 factories are preparing for a 40 percent to 50 percent decrease in output in 2007... That anticipated drop will come on the heels of two banner years in North American Class 8 truck sales... Those record sales have been prompted by a strong economy and customers’ desire to avoid pricey 2007 low-emissions engines, which Freightliner expects will run between $7,000 and $10,000 for heavy-duty models... But as long as the economy continues moderate growth and fuel prices don’t spike to post-Katrina levels, “we think by 2008 normal market conditions will prevail,” Roger Nielsen, chief operating officer of Freightliner LLC, said...

LOUISVILLE, Ky.,USA -Truck News(Toronto,ON,Canada), by James Menzies -28 Mar 2006: -- Freightliner is the latest truck manufacturer to announce its 2007 pricing plans, citing an upcharge of US$4,500-$6,000 on medium-duty trucks and US$7,000-$10,000 for heavy-duty tractors... Freightliner president and CEO Chris Patterson made the announcement at the Mid-America Trucking Show. The upcharges announced apply to Freightliner trucks equipped with Detroit Diesel and MBE-Series engines...

The company made the announcement that rack and pinion steering will be available on the Century Class S/T, Coronado, Columbia, Classic and Classix XL models, at the Mid-America Trucking Show... Availability will begin later this year, the company said...
