Sales - Australia - Trucking's winners and losers in 2005

Australia -CARSguide, by Patrick Whiteley -14 Jan 2006: -- Japanese truckmakers were the big winners in 2005, selling more trucks then ever before. In all, there were 34,732 trucks sold in 2005, up more than 3000 on the previous year's figures... Almost all of this gain in sales was realised in the 4.5-tonne to 8.5-tonne light market (2000 extra sales) and the 8.5t-16t medium duty (900 extra trucks)... Heavy truck sales went backwards only slightly after a dramatic rise in fuel prices and all makers of big trucks lost ground... Truck companies believe 2006 will be "steady as she goes" and expect similar sales figures, with a slight reduction in the heavy duty sector... Isuzu won the light-duty segment (3.5 tonne-8.5t) and medium-duty range (8.5t-16t) and sold more than 1000 extra trucks in 2005...
