GreenNews - Canada - OTA to Make a Major Announcement to Curb Speeding Trucks, Slash Emissions

TORONTO, ONTARIO, Canada -CCNMatthews -Nov. 14, 2005: -- In what is being described as a "bold move" the Ontario Trucking Association will be making a major announcement at 1 pm, Nov. 16 that will, if put into law, make speeding trucks a thing of the past and slash the trucking industry's output of greenhouse gas emissions... OTA will be joined by safety, automobile and environmental groups in calling upon the Ontario government to make it a legal requirement that the speed limiters (sometimes referred to as governors) on all trucks be activated and set at a prescribed maximum speed, to be announced by OTA officials. (A speed limiter is a built-in electronic microchip that allows an engine's top speed to be pre-set to a defined maximum.)... A photo opportunity and a demonstration of how truck speed limiters can be monitored (using a real truck) will be available on site...
