Sales - USA - August auto sales dip; total still ahead for '05
DETROIT,MICH,USA -Chicago Tribune/Associated Press/By Dee-Ann Durbin - Sept 2, 2005: -- Several companies reported a drop in truck sales, a likely result of rising gas prices... The Big Three U.S. automakers' sales dropped 6.8 percent compared with last August, although sales are up 3.5 percent so far this year. All had expected some slowdown as excitement waned for programs that let customers pay the employee price. General Motors Corp.'s discount began in June, and Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group matched the program in July... Asian automakers saw their sales steadily increase in August even though they didn't match the discounts. Car sales for Asian makers rose 15.5 percent, while truck sales were up 3 percent. Sales of Asian brands were up nearly 9 percent in the first eight months of the year...
