Rights - Canada - Outsiders in our town
Edmonton,Canada -Edmonton Sun, by Kerry Diotte -11 Sept 2005: -- There's a buzz in Edmonton these days over the filming of a major motion picture here starring Brad Pitt... As such, Warner Brothers has inked a deal with the City of Edmonton to close down a portion of the public park until shooting ends Sept. 26... But there are some people who have concerns because citizens of Edmonton are getting the boot from the park, which is public property, and from a nearby paved cycling path... One journalist this past week was even warned not to photograph movie service trucks parked on a public street - Whitemud Road... Sun Media photog David Bloom said he was walking on Whitemud Road one day this past week, noticed the trucks and asked a man whether they were there for the movie... "I can't let you take photos"... Security warned them if they continued on the path, there'd be police waiting for them at the other end!.. We love big events coming to our town - but it's still OUR town, and we shouldn't be stepping on the rights of citizens to use public property they've paid for with their taxes...
