Delaware,USA -The News Journal, by LULADEY B. TADESSE -08/26/2005: -- Faced with trucker shortages, many trucking companies are turning to Hispanic drivers to fulfill their needs. Long periods away from home, unpredictable schedules, an aging work force and competitive pay in fields such as construction have made it difficult for trucking companies to attract enough drivers... Truckers' trade associations and magazines also are paying more attention to estimated 480,000 Hispanic truck drivers in this country. The number of Hispanic male truck drivers is expected to grow from 14.6 percent of all truckers, to 18.7 percent by 2014, according to the American Trucking Association...
