Costs - USA - Trucking Leader Urges Changes

CEDAR RAPIDS -Dallas,TX,USA -rednova -Sep. 22, 2005: -- Shipping costs will rise and the number of trucking companies will shrink unless some things change, American Trucking Association chairman Steve Williams says... Williams, of Little Rock, Ark.-based Maverick Transportation, said during a visit to Cedar Rapids that government mandates in areas such as clean air and truck drivers' hours of service are aggravating cost pressures imposed by the market... One result of the driver shortage and high fuel costs will be more trucking company mergers... "It's getting harder for small carriers to have the same benefit packages as our larger companies do," he said. "He who has the employees will carry the freight"...
