Research - Japan - TEPCO tests power supply to coolers in parked trucks

Tokyo,Japan -The Asahi Shimbun -08/03/2005: -- Tokyo Electric Power Co. and Hino Motors Ltd. have started an experiment that aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by supplying parked trucks with electricity for air conditioning... If a truck with a loading capacity of 10 tons uses an electric air conditioning system, instead of running the vehicle's engine, for an hour, emissions of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides will be reduced 76.8 percent and 97.4 percent, respectively, the companies said... Six trucks from three transportation companies are taking part in the experiment at the Toshin Truck Station, a facility set up by an industry organization where long-distance truck drivers can rest...
