Council to gather input; vote expected Tuesday
Fort Wayne,IN,USA -Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, by Dan Stockman -Aug. 22, 2005: -- Residents will have a final chance to voice their thoughts on heavy trucks roaring down city streets just a day before City Council members attempt to decide the issue once and for all... The Fort Wayne City Council will conduct a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. today in Room 128 of the City County Building, where council members will listen to residents on how the city should regulate truck traffic... “The two issues of real contention will be the same ones we’ve been seeing for a while,” Talarico said... The proposed law the council will consider Tuesday creates two different types of truck routes. One is called a “truck route” and allows all trucks to travel freely. Those are limited to state and federal highways and a few major city streets. A second set of routes, called “local delivery routes,” are limited to trucks coming from or going to somewhere in the city limits. Most of the city’s major streets are designated local delivery routes under the proposal...
