TRUCKMAKERS SALES * Sweden: SCANIA wins record truck order in Europe

* Stockholm - Scania has won its largest ever order: 2000 trucks in Great Britain
-- British transport operator Eddie Stobart Limited and its associated companies, including A.W. Jenkinson Forestry Products, have ordered more than 2,000 trucks... Due for delivery over a two-year period commencing March 2016, the deal will involve many Scania UK dealers, both in terms of vehicle supply and repair and maintenance operations... This is the fourth time Eddie Stobart Limited and its associated companies have placed a major order with Scania in the UK, the first two being for 1,000 vehicles in 2010 and 2012 followed by 1,500 units in 2014... Scania is a major supplier to British industry of trucks, buses, coaches and engines for industrial and marine applications. Additionally, the company provides a wide range of complementary and ancillary services in support of its products and customers through its 90-plus-strong network of service centres. In 2015, Scania's share of the UK heavy truck market was 19.5 percent and its combined bus and coach market share amounted to 7 percent...

TRUCKS SALES * Ireland: DAF's

* Ireland - Weight conscious DAF LF secures major fleet deal with Calor Gas

 --  Calor Gas, has put to the road its first of 20 new ‘Minibulk’ tanker vehicles based on DAF’s 18-tonne Euro-6 LF 220 FA chassis. Bodied with a 17,000-litre LPG pressure vessel by Lakeland Tankers, the DAF LF offers Calor Gas a significant 500kg weight advantage over competitor chassis... Importantly, the new DAF / Lakeland Tankers ‘Minibulk’ specification is the first in the UK to receive Whole Vehicle Type Approval through the Individual Vehicle Approval process. Equipment also includes LPG pumping and metering equipment, and a wealth of interlocks and other safety devices, combining to offer an impressive unladen weight of 9,750kg... As part of the same fleet delivery package, Calor Gas has also ordered 27 DAF LF 210 FA chassis at 15-tonnes GVW and three LF 150 FA 7.5 tonners, all with Cartwright bodies, for its gas cylinder distribution operation. 51 units on order thus far in 2015 follow a delivery of 64 Euro-6 DAF trucks previously in 2014. The DAF brand now makes up over 90% of Calor Gas’s 550+ vehicle fleet...

* UK - Van market rises, but trucks slip back

London,EN,UK -Irish Trucker News -9 April 2013: -- Van registrations are up 11.7 per cent for the first three months of the year, according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. However, the truck market has slowed with registrations down 17.7 per cent to 10,060 for the year to date... The market for artics held up better than for rigids. Registrations of artics was down seven per cent to 3,482, while the market for rigids was down 21 per cent to 6,578. Iveco was the only on of the major manufacturers to increase registrations in the first three months with a one per cent increase... DAF maintained market leadership with a 27 per cent share of the truck market, followed by Scania with 14.5 per cent and Mercedes with 14.2 per cent. In the van market, Ford was market leader with 25.6 per cent followed by Volkswagen with 13 per cent...

* UK - Ryder invests £25 million on upgraded truck rental fleet

Devizes,Wiltshire,UK -Transport Engineer, by John Challen -14 March 2012: -- Ryder is investing £24.6 million in a further upgrade and expansion of its commercial vehicle rental fleet, following the company's acquisition of Hill Hire in June 2011... Ryder invests £25 million on upgraded truck rental fleetOver the next two months, Ryder will be introducing 530 new vehicles, including 250 tractors – bringing the average age of Ryder's trucks and tractors to 27 months... HGVs will now represent 82% of Ryder's commercial vehicle mix. Additionally, within the HGV categories, tractors will now account for 42% of the fleet...

TRUCK SALES * UK - Heron Foods invests in fridge-bodied Volvo rigids

Hull,EN,UK -Transport Engineer, by John Challen -7 Dec 2010: -- Four Volvo FE-300 rigids, with Solomon fridge bodies, have been added to the Heron Foods fleet that services 160 stores in the midlands and the north of England... Heron Foods invests in fridge bodied Volvo rigids. The 6x2 chassis trucks, are the first Volvos in Heron's 36-strong fleet... The company's adds that while it is too early to look at fuel returns, the initial signs are good. "It's been a change for our drivers too, and they have taken to these new Volvos very well" ...


* UK - Coca-Cola beats London LEZ rules with Eminox technology

London,UK -Tranport Engineer, by Brian Tinham -6 Dec 2010: -- Coca-Cola Enterprises is retrofitting Eminox CRT (continuously regenerating trap) technology to cut emissions from its standby city delivery vehicle fleet in the face of London's LEZ rules... The firm, which handles manufacturing and distribution of Coca-Cola brands in the UK had identified four Iveco Stralis trucks that needed upgrading to meet the upcoming Low Emission Zone Phase 4 requirements... These set a tougher standard of Euro 4 particulate matter for trucks over 3.5 tonnes from January 2012. Eminox's new London Service Centre is currently upgrading the trucks ahead of the peak holiday season...



* UK - MAN TGX grows transport operation for RA Meredith


Gloucester,UK -Transport Engineer, by Brian Tinham -30 Nov 2010: -- Ornamental plant grower and distributor RA Meredith & Son has taken delivery of 10 MAN TGX 26.440BLS 6x2 tractor units with XLX cabs... The in Gloucester-based firm says it's now focusing on in-house transport for its nursery, having previously relied on a short term rental fleet... Transport manager Gary Counsell explains that to stay green and VOSA compliant, the new fleet has been equipped with MAN EcoStyle driver performance monitoring and MAN Fleet Management tool...

Lynch selects Renault Kerax for next generation grab trucks

Stanmore,UK -Transport Engineer, by Brian Tinham -25 Nov 2010: -- L. Lynch Plant Hire and Haulage has taken delivery of the first four of 24 new 8x4 Renault Kerax rigids... Rob Lynch, director at L Lynch, says that the Renault Kerax scored highly against competitors for their robustness and suitability for on- and off-road use – enabling these Renaults to join the firm's 137-strong mixed fleet of Volvos, Scanias and DAFs... The vehicles will be used in the utility and civil engineering sectors, where they will be transporting spoil from site or roadside to disposal facilities across London, the Midlands and South East...

TRUCK SALES * UK - Truck registrations show rise on last year

Truck registrations for October showed a significant jump and van registrations continued their steady rise

London,EN;UK -Road Transport (UK), by Kevin Swallow -4 November 2010:  ... According to the SMMT, there were 2,788 heavy truck (6.0 tonnes and over) registrations in October 2010, up 123.4% on 2009. However, truck registrations slumped in October 2009 to 1,248 units on the back of dealers and operators rushing to register trucks before the Euro-5 RPC deadline at the end of the previous month... Year-to-date figures for 2010 now stand at 21,631 units, just 12.6% down on 2009. Only two European truck manufacturers have posted an increase in registrations this year - Renault Trucks and Scania... The French manufacturer is up 27.6% to 1,630 units, which is 7.5% marketshare, up 2.1%... Scania is up 12.9% this year to 2,906 units and has struck several notable deals with Eddie Stobart, AW Jenkinson and Asda... The van market up to 3.5 tonnes continues to enjoy success with October 2010 up 22.4% to 18,147 units, and the year-to-date numbers rising to 186,701...


* Cumbria - Stobart to spend £5m on 265 trailers


Penrith,Cumbria,EN,UK -Road Transport, by Christopher Walton -2 November 2010: -- Stobart Group is set to spend £5m on new trailers after it agreed a funding deal with Barclays Corporate Asset Finance... Stobart will acquire 265 skeletal and curtain-sided trailers in two deals as a result of the funding arrangement... Eddie Stobart, the road transport arm of Stobart Group, runs some 3,150 trailers as well as 1,870 tractor units... * UK - TGM Environmental orders fifth MB vehicle this year

London,UK -Road Transport, by Kevin Swallow -4 Nov 2010: -- East London-based waste paper company TGM Environmental has added a new Mercedes-Benz Axor to its fleet, the fifth vehicle bought from the manufacturer this year... The 26-tonne Axor 2533 is fitted with a JC Payne (UK)-built curtainsider body Moffett Mounty fork-lift to collect bales of paper and cardboard. It joins two Axor 2543 high-roofed tractor units, a 13-tonne Atego and a 3.5-tonne Sprinter, both with box bodies and tail-lifts... TGM Environmental's new vehicles have five-year Mercedes-Benz repair and maintenance contracts. It also has a sixth order in the pipeline, a 26-tonne Atego 2529 which will have a Dennis Eagle refuse body for collections from commercial printers...

* Yorkshire - Sissons & Sons switch to MAN

Yorkshire-based haulier GW Sissons & Son says fuel consumption is the reason the company is making its entire 13-strong fleet MAN... The Sherburn-in-Elmet based company undertook a three-year, multi-brand, in-house trial, during which the TGX 26.440BLS 6x2 tractor units emerged as the most cost-effective truck. The deal for 12 TGX 26.440 6x2 tractor units with top-of-the-range XXL cabs - the first two are already in service - will replace DAF XF105 and Iveco's... * Hertfordshire - PCL chooses Renault

Hoddesdon,Hertfordshire,UK -HGV UK -September 28, 2010: -- Chilled storage and distribution specialists, PCL Transport Ltd., has taken delivery of 70 new Euro 5 Renault Premium 460.25, 6×2 and 4×2 tractor units with the Optidriver gearbox... The Renault Premiums will be used to transport fresh milk and cream to major multiples across the South East on behalf of Arla Foods... * UK - Truck registrations on the up

London,EN,UK -Road Transport, by Ian Tonkin -9 August 2010: -- Van registrations have continued their steady rise, but heavy trucks have yet to reverse their downward trend, according to the SMMT's July registration data... Total registrations for July were a touch over 20,000 units; down 4.4% for the rolling year to date. Of that total, trucks accounted for just 14% or 2,760 units. Trucks fell by 25.8% to 32,115 units for the rolling year and by 12.9% to 17,826 for the year-to-date. However, the positive news is that July's registrations are 9.1% better than the same month last year... Vans, meanwhile, continue to build on several months of positive growth with a 25.8% increase for the rolling year and a 25.2% increase against July 2009...

* UK - DAF records highest-ever market share

London,UK -Road Transport, by Kevin Swallow -8 January 2010: -- DAF Trucks recorded its highest-ever market share in 2009, despite registrations for all commercial vehicles dropping 36.2%, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT)... The firm held its position as the biggest seller of vehicles 6.0 tonnes and over, registering 8,317 units throughout 2009... Mercedes-Benz held onto second place with 4,219 units, increasing market share to 15.1%, with Volvo Trucks third, registering 3,100 units... Hino registrations dropped 83.1% to 100 units, MAN's fell 51.1% to 2,865 units, and Volvo Trucks by 50.3%... Dennis Eagle, which registered 781 units, was the least affected, down just 11.2% on 2008...
