* Wiscosin - Trailer production stacking up at Stoughton Trailers

--- Stoughton Trailers' boost in production and its expansion into the trucking market is written all over the landscape on Brodhead's southeast side... The lots around the company's 300,000-square-foot semitrailer manufacturing facility are filled with new, 53-foot trailers marked for pickup by customers... And the 17 acre grass lot across the street from the Brodhead plant is chock full of new semitrailers, too. A crew of Stoughton Trailers yard drivers spend their days in snub-nosed semitrailer tractors, moving around the new trailers like puzzle pieces, readying them for final customization and setting them up for customer pickup... Some of the hundreds of trailers have company names emblazoned on decals that show the world who owns them—Stoughton Trailers customers that include Amazon and Schneider...

TRAILER PRODUCTION * USA: Jumps 25%

* Indiana - ACT Research: Trailer shipments 26% increase from February

--- Trailer production jumped 25% from February to March according to the latest data from ACT Research... “Roughly 60% of the month-over-month gain came from the additional build days in the quarter-ending month, while the remaining 40% improvement came from a 94 upd sequential jump in the build rate,” said Frank Maly, director, CV Transportation Analysis and Research at ACT. “Even with that surge, it appears that the industry’s additional production capacity is still not being fully utilized” ... Trailer shipments closed the first quarter with a 26% increase from February, with every trailer category being up from last month... “The 26% sequential gain was almost exactly aligned with seasonal expectations,” said Maly. “The strong orderboard turnaround that began in December is finally being reflected in build and shipments” ...

TRAILER MAKER news * USA: Down 20 % from June, and down 55 % year-over-year

* Indiana - Trailer orders swoon, fall below expectations


--- Trailer orders in July slid to 9,500 units according to FTR, well below expectations and down 20 percent from June and down 55 percent year-over-year... Orders have totaled 260,000 units over the past 12 months... Backlogs fell another 9 percent in July, usually the weakest trailer order month, and are now 21 percent below a year ago. Trailer build was also down 7 percent per day for the month from June... Dry van orders were particularly weak, with other trailer segments experiencing noticeable order declines as well...

* Indiana - Truckers order 30 percent fewer trailers in March

-- U.S. trailer orders plunged last month as a backlog builds and trucking companies adjust buying plans, ACT Research said Friday... The orders fell 30 percent to 15,000 in March compared to the previous month, and 36 percent from the same period last year... Changes in fleet order patterns are behind the decline, Frank Maly, director of CV Transportation Analysis and Research at ACT Research, told Trucks.com. ... Currently, trailer order backlogs can last almost seven months, which means that fleets with a long backlog may have to wait until the fall to receive their equipment...

TRUCK TRAILERS ORDER UP in 2016 * USA

* DC - 21% increase in orders to January, compared to 2015

-- The U.S. trucking industry is seeing more signs of growth with new data showing trailer orders jumped significantly in February 2016... FTR has reported a 21% increase in orders compared to January, while compared to 2015, the data shows that orders are up 2%... Dry van orders remain steady but refrigerated units, dumps and flatbeds are improving... Don Ake, FTR vice-president of commercial vehicles, says the refrigerated vans were up 40% from January with February flatbed orders the highest since last October...

-- Trailer net orders in October — while exceeding 33,000 units — were down 7 percent from September and 30 percent on a year over year basis. Nevertheless, according to the most recent State of the Industry: U.S. Trailers published by ACT Research Co. (ACT), the solid order season continues for this segment of the commercial vehicle industry... “The solid order season continued for U.S. trailers in October, although month over month and year over year comparisons were both in the red,” said Frank Maly, director of commercial vehicle transportation analysis and research at ACT...

TRAILER MAKERS NEWS * USA: September 2015 Orders beating expectations

* Indiana - FTR Reports September 2015 Trailer orders was 48 percent above August

-- FTR reports September 2015 U.S. trailer net orders added up to 34,700, which is significantly above expectations... The order total for the month was 48 percent above August and improved 8 percent from a year ago. Trailer orders have now totaled 338,000 for the past 12 months... Dry van orders were very healthy — 11 percent higher year over year — and refrigerated van orders were also strong, exceeding 5,000 units for the first time since September. Liquid tank orders were solid, but other trailer segments are still showing some weakness. Flatbed orders stopped their recent fall but were still down 39 percent year over year. Dry tank and dump trailer orders were weaker than expected. Overall trailer build for the month was flat versus August... Don Ake, FTR vice president of commercial vehicles, said, “The fall order season starts off with a bang. The dry van and refrigerated van segments are running at record levels and show no signs of slowing down at this point...

* England - Fruehauf enters rigid tipper market

-- Fruehauf has boosted its rigid tipper product range with the launch of a 7.5-tonner... Best known for its tipping trailers, sales director David Thompson, said he would be happy if that slice was between 200 and 300 7.5-tonners per year, and said the company is off to a flying start... It is building 50 Fuso Canter tippers for Mercedes-Benz dealer Sparshatts of Kent... Bodies are built in advance, allowing Fruehauf to offer 7.5-tonne tipper customers a seven-day turnaround...

TRAILER SALES * USA - May: 29% year-over-year in

* Connecticut - FTR Reports Trailer Orders plummet


-- FTR reports net orders for new trailers in the United States totaled 15,200 units in May — 14 percent below the previous month and 29 percent year-over-year... The traditional summer slide continues, earlier and more pronounced than normal; however, there is still plenty of backlog available to support strong build rates through the end of the year. U.S. trailer orders have annualized over the past 12 months at 326,000 units... While backlogs are strong, they have fallen 15 percent since the January peak. Dry van, flatbed, and liquid tank were the primary segments affected by the lower order rate in May. Refrigerated vans and the dump trailer market continue with positive comparisons. Production remains steady for all trailer types...

* West Midlands - Cartwright Group shows new trailer designs off

-- Cartwright exhibited its latest curtain-sided and reefer trailers at the CV Show... The new reefer is about 800kg lighter than the previous model.. Much of the weight has come out of the slimmed-down chassis and a new floor structure with redesigned bearers... A single-temperature, 13.6m-long, 4.145m-high example exhibited outside the halls, with a Carrier Vector 1550 fridge plant is claimed to weigh “substantially less than 
8.5 tonnes”... The key points of the new curtainsider are a new floor design capable of withstanding high point loadings, plus a redesigned bulkhead aero-dynamic moulding that deflects air past the curtain tracks at the top corners...

* Canada - Quebec wants to make sure truck trailer maker Manac Inc. stays in the province

-- Quebec’s economy minister wants the province’s investment arm to assist any eventual partner interested in truck trailer manufacturer Manac Inc. so the company remains based in the province... Jacques Daoust says Manac’s openness about its intentions will allow for Investissement Quebec to get involved in the process... On Monday, Manac, which bills itself as Canada’s largest truck trailer manufacturer, said its review of strategic options includes a sale of the company... The Quebec-based firm, which makes specialty trailers such as grain hoppers and logging trailers sold across North America, said it would also consider a merger or another business transaction...

TRAILER MAKERS * USA: Trailer orders dip 32% in January

* Indiana -  Still up 18% year over year


-- The number of new trailers ordered totaled 19,853 in January — down nearly 32 percent from December’s strong order volume, but rose 18 percent year over year, according to ACT Research Co.’s most recent State of the Industry: U.S. Trailers report... Frank Maly, director of commercial vehicle transportation analysis and research at ACT, noted that with ratification of the West Coast port contract proposal likely, the economy has side-stepped significant headwinds. He said ensuing freight onslaught will be a net positive for the commercial vehicle industry. “Trailer demand continues to receive support from a wide array of factors, including solid freight volumes, pent-up demand for replacement equipment, and increased consumer and business spending. * Indiana - Trailer orders soar in September to highest level since 2005

Columbus,IND,USA --Transport Topics, by Seth Clevenger -24 Oct 2014: -- September trailer orders spiked 86.2% from a year earlier and soared to the highest level in nearly a decade, ACT Research reported... U.S.A. trailer makers last month received 32,194 net orders, the highest monthly total since January 2005 and the sixth best on record going back to 1990, the firm said. It was also the largest September tally on record... ACT analyst Frank Maly said the surge in order activity was driven in large part by fleets making their order commitments earlier than usual to secure production slots at a time when manufacturers’ backlogs continue to expand... Through nine months, customers have ordered 230,394 trailers this year, a 50.7% jump from 152,914 in the same timeframe in 2013... With three months to go, the cumulative 2014 net order total has already nearly matched the 232,153 orders placed in all of 2013... This year is on pace to be the best for net trailer orders since at least 2006, when orders crested at 283,164, and could surpass that figure if incoming orders remain strong during the fourth quarter...

Purchased by Prime Inc., based in in Springfield, Mo., from Utility Trailer Sales of the Ozarks, the 2,500 Utility 3000R reefer trailers add to a total of 5,000 trailers purchased from the dealership... The trailers will be equipped to provide maximum fuel efficiency and added safety — components include Utility’s USS-120A-4 aerodynamic side skirt, optional air disc brakes, and a suspension system designed for increased roll stability. Utility will build Prime’s reefers in both of its Utah and Virginia factories...

According to the data, orders went up 27% from July and 45% year-over-year... “August trailer order activity is a very positive development and reflects strong market momentum approaching the fall ordering season,” said Don Ake, FTR vice-president of commercial vehicles. “FTR sees no signs of the trailer market slowing down, so we expect good order numbers for the next few months. All trailer segments are seeing good order activity” ...
