CONCEPT TRUCK * USA: Fiat/Chrysler's "Jeep"

* Utah - Jeep's trucks new concept look amazing

(Video 2016 by TestDrivenTV - Mar 11, 2016 - We round up the hot Jeep Concept Vehicles shown at the 50th Easter Jeep safari at Moab including the Hellcat powered Trailcat, the Commanche, Commander, Shortcut, Crew Chief and more)

-- In celebration of the upcoming Easter Jeep Safari off road event in Moab, Utah, Jeep has just shown off a bunch of crazy concepts to stir some excitement... If a 707 horsepower Jeep Wrangler sounds interesting to you, I'd advise you to keep reading... The world has been without a topless, pickup truck Jeep for far too long. This Jeep Comanche might only be a concept, but at least it allows us to bring our dreams one step closer to reality... Stretched six inches longer than the Renegade, which it's originally based on, the Comanche is able to rock a five foot bed. Hopefully that's enough to carry all the necessary off road tools and equipment. It uses a smaller diesel engine mated with a nine-speed automatic transmission to get going... This isn't just a truck the off roading world wants. It's a truck the off roading world needs... If a small pickup isn't your thing, the larger Jeep Crew Chief 715 might work...

TRUCKS FUEL CONSUMPTION * USA: Technologies to revolutionize freight hauled on roads

* California - Wal-Mart test truck aims to slash fuel consumption on big rigs

-- If Bruce Wayne ever had to vacate the Batcave, he might insist on moving his Batgear with an arrow sleek microturbine big rig with a carbon-fiber cargo trailer, an electronic dashboard of three computer tablets and tires wider than any race car... This is WAVE, the Wal-Mart Advanced Vehicle Experience concept truck, a collaboration of 22 international companies. It's also a rolling stock test case for technologies that could revolutionize the way freight is hauled on roads... The collaboration began when Wal-Mart approached several firms in January 2011. One was the maker of a heavily patented microturbine motor small enough to fit under the hood of a heavy-duty freight hauler... Some of the companies involved in the project, such as Allison Transmission and Roush Enterprises, are frequently involved in concept vehicles and also produce aftermarket modifications to factory-built vehicles... But Capstone has another reason to be involved. Although its microturbines are sold around the world, it has yet to have a profitable year since it went public 15 years ago. Jamison said it is tough to compete with traditional and alternative energy sources, such as solar power...

* Sweden - Futuristic truck-cab concept probably won't thrill Optimus Prime

(Photo from dvice: Scania truck main thumb)

This Scania truck-cab concept from the mind of Adam Palethorpe certainly looks sleek and modern, looking more like an Apple-inspired PC mod than a big rig. It puts glossy finishes and curved surfaces in place of crude, boxy industrialism.

One aspect of Palethorpe's design I do like, however, are the high-tech fenders that show how long the truck's been on the road. A series of lights, clearly visible to other drivers, would indicate the number of hours the truck's been driven in the last 24 hours, and the last time the driver had a break. While truckers might accuse them of being draconian, I see it as essentially putting your money where your mouth is with those "How's my driving" signs...

CONCEPT TRUCK * Radical Aerodynamic Semi Truck With 0.29 Cd Offers Dramatic Fuel Savings

Munich,Germany -The Truth About Cars, by Paul Niedermeyer -December 5, 2009: -- We’ve looked back at a boxy old International, so how about we gaze into the future? Aerodynamics is overarching key to improved transport fuel efficiency, since hybrid and other advance propulsion technologies have limited impact on long-haul trucks... This proposal by European truck maker MAN slips though the air with a 0.29 Cd (coefficient of drag), instead of the more typical 0.57 Cd. That represents a dramatic potential improvement in economy, but at the expense of an irregular-shaped cargo trailer. That’s going to be a big impediment to the trailer and cargo-handling standardization predominant in the industry. But it shows the potential available... (Images: MAN Dolphin)

Concept Trucks * Petite Cargo Pickup Plays Transformer

Optimising urban goods delivery in large cities

Yanko design. Designer: Adam Schacter -1 June 2009: -- Here’s the deal about this fantastic Cargo Pick-up concept: Traffic’s bad, it’s only gonna get worse with time... To tackle inner city deliveries, is this innovative battery powered vehicle that boasts of variable track, wheelbase and load carrying configurations. It features a Compact Mode, Narrow Mode (with banking corner action) and Pick-up Truck Mode... The Compact Mode sees the Pick-up section flushed to the back of the cabin. It’s an ideal situation for small deliveries. The Narrow mode gives reduced width and higher maneuverability and as the name suggests, the Pick-up Truck Mode allows you to carry larger payloads... The Clip-On composite body panels give plenty of real estate for putting up adverts, which I think is a brilliant idea... The CarGo Pod or the storage compartment when empty can be removed to further reduce the vehicle length...

PROGNOSIS * USA - The Truck of the Future is Around the Corner

Class 8 concepts riding magnetized highways are on the drawing board as the Army gets involved

Washington,DC,USA -World Trade Magazine, by Amy Zuckerman -April 30, 2009: -- The truck of the future may well be a highly fuel efficient vehicle, possibly an electric/diesel hybrid, that is capable of capturing its energy output for feed back into its electrical system, and with advanced diagnostic and prognostic tools that will limit maintenance significantly... Down the road in 20 or more years and trucks may flow along magnetic highways barely touching the ground, using only minimal fuel, much as fast trains do today. In fact, says Vic Suski, general manager of Shenandoah Express, Middleton, Virginia, there’s a possibility that the truck as we know it today won’t even exist... Some of these visions are already on the drawing board thanks to a joint collaboration between the United States Army National Automotive Center and the TMC Future Truck committee. Paul Skalny, director of the National Automotive Center in Warren, Michigan, says the Army has committed $3.2 million over the next four years to study and validate up to 12 possible technologies that hold promise for both the military and commercial markets... Eco Trucks * Hungary - SunTruck: The next-gen highway cruiser

Eco Factor: Truck powered by a diesel-electric hybrid engine. Electricity in this case is harnessed by solar cells mounted on a semitrailer

Budapest,Hungary -ecofriend.org -17 Feb 2009: -- ... Trucks have always been the kings of the road, so any futuristic design of a truck needs to maintain that distinct image and class. Gabor Magyari, a design student at the University of Technology and Economics in Budapest, Hungary, has created what many would have wanted a couple of decades earlier... With massive fuel-eating engines, trucks were always in need of some green refinement for a better environment. The SunTruck, as Gabor calls it, is his vision of a futuristic, ecofriendly truck...The SunTruck is powered by a hybrid diesel-electric engine. While running on diesel, the emphasis has been made on fuel efficiency and power at the same time. And while running on diesel, the truck generates electricity that is used to power onboard electronics and a lithium-ion battery pack. After dropping the load, the electric engine can be selected for a zero-emission ride. Electricity in this case is harnessed by solar cells mounted on a semitrailer... Apart from high cost risks, we have no doubt in our minds that trucks such as the SunTruck will definitely rule the roads of the future...

CONCEPT TRUCK * Atropos: An Aerodinamic Converting Hybrid Semi Truck

Designer : Peter Azzouni

Birmingham,Al,USA -Tuvie -6 Jan 2008: -- This highly efficient truck is achieved by the use of a diesel/electric hybrid setup, a converting sleeper cab, and its streamline design...The truck runs with high efficiency through the use of a combustion turbine coupled with an electrical generator. The generator charges the battery reservoir. The combustion turbine utilizes its thermal energy by the use of a steam generator throughout the cooling system, the steam generator also provides an additional amount of cooling, reducing the size of engine ventilation and overall body drag... The converging sleeper cab sits like a conventional driving cab, but allows for more visibility. The driving cab rotates to allow for a better sleeping position, and reveals a storage compartment for personal storage and a mini dresser. While the cab is in the sleep position the drive pedals are locked out under the cab, due to the rotation, for safety. The seats fold down and together to form a comfortable memory foam mattress...The cab glass is also ionized and tints or blacks out according to the driver’s needs, the location of the tint will also modify to allow for view on top and not out the sides, or as the driver wishes... The aerodynamic streamline shape was inspired by locomotives and DTM race cars. The fenders sweep up to provide minimal drag, while the hood sleekly rounds to allow air to pass effortlessly, much like an airplane nose. The cab forms a tear drop shape, and covers over the cab-trailer gap, eliminating drag between the cab and trailer. The cab is also bowed at the rear to accommodate the trailer during turns while reducing drag by covering over the sides... (E.N.: Seems this cab have been designed for F-1 drivers only... What about our fat truckers ???... )
