* Northland - Frustrated and angry Northlanders want heavy trucks off rural roads
--- Whangarei locals have decided to pull together to resolve fears and disruption caused by logging trucks on rural roads... An explosive meeting at the Otaika Community Hall last night saw more than a hundred frustrated and angry residents show up with some threatening to block the roads from logging trucks if action wasn't taken... It follows a spate of logging truck crashes in Northland over the past few weeks that saw four truck drivers roll their vehicles. Residents say twisty narrow roads like Otaika Valley aren't geared up for the large trucks that frequently use the road... They say the trucks speed, are noisy and dangerous... Some locals are calling for roads like Otaika Valley to be closed off to large trucks, others say the speed limit should be reduced... The Transport Agency is investigating a range of options to improve safety at the intersection of SH1 and Loop Road as part of the Government's package of accelerated regional projects...
