Operation "StateTrans" Australia * Drugged or drunked on 10% unsafe trucks

* NSW - Trucks targeted in the road safety blitz

--- A dozen truckies have allegedly been caught driving under the influence of drugs and numerous unsafe trucks have been found operating on NSW roads during a week-long police blitz... From the 13,800 trucks targeted during Operation StateTrans, more than 1600 defects were found and officers issued drivers with hundreds of infringements and breaches for licence, registration, fatigue and loading offences... One of the drivers who allegedly tested positive for drugs will face court on prohibited weapons and drugs charges after police allegedly found knives and methamphetamine in his truck, a police spokesman told AAP... Inspectors also found 66 non-compliant or tampered engine control modules that allow drivers to exceed the 100km/h speed limit... Assistant Commissioner John Hartley said the bottom 10 per cent of trucks have been taken off NSW roads this week... "We know that it is only a small number of drivers, operators, and companies that continually do the wrong thing in an attempt to gain some sort of commercial advantage, which is why our joint work is important in both ensuring, and enforcing, heavy vehicle compliance on our roads," he said...
