* N.Y. - Truck fee costs $50 million, the registration penalized out-of-state truckers

While not explicitly outlined, the state is expected to lose about $50 million this year thanks to a court battle two months ago that overturned a controversial registration fee among truckers from outside of New York... "They've eliminated the $19 fee," said Kendra Hems, president of the state Motor Truck Association. "Now they pay a $1.50 administrative fee" ... The change stemmed from a lawsuit by the Missouri-based Owner Operators and Independent Drivers Association, which argued that the $19 fee — $15 for registration and $4 for the decal, collected every four years was illegal. That's because out-of-state truckers who may simply pass through the state were required to pay the same amount as intrastate truckers, or those who remain within New York's borders...
