* Mumbai - Ashok Leyland adopts Dassault Systemes’ solutions to improve performance


-- With the automobile companies around the world trying to reduce cost by embracing latest technology to remain competitive and relevant, Indian truck and bus manufacturer Ashok Leyland, which has ambition to emerge as world’s top five bus maker and top 10 truck maker, has adopted two of Dassault Systèmes’ industry solutions to reduce its product development cycle, meet rising customers’ demand, stringent emission norms and to cut production cost... Ashok Leyland was looking to enhance quality control and accelerate the delivery of its trucks and buses from a three years product development cycle to 18 months. In addition, the company also wanted an efficient cost management solution that would address the complexity of its product portfolio as it tailors a diverse range of products to meet shifting market requirements... Dassault Systèmes’ solutions are expected to provide one unified, digital platform with specialised applications to help Ashok Leyland minimise risks and costs, automate knowledge and optimise overall performance...

** West Bengal - Tata Motors trucks undergo smart transformation

-- Vehicle-maker Tata Motors on Friday said it has been evolving its medium-heavy trucks as smart vehicles over a period of time and will be powering all future launches in this segment with telematics... Vehicles now have telematics, through which fleet owners can track their movement, and get information about fuel consumption and mileage... The technology will be available free-of-cost to the buyers and subscription charges for the first three years of vehicle use will be waived... Telematics -- a combination of the words telecommunications and informatics in the branch of information technology -- deals with the long-distance transmission of computerised information... Kaul said this equipment and solution will be able to cut down fuel-theft dramatically... While the telematics unit now comes pre-installed in some truck models, it is also available in the market for Rs.10,000 as an accessory...

 *** Mumbai - Pininfarina about to be part of truckmaker Mahindra?

-- Indian automaker Mahindra &  Mahindra has inched closer towards acquiring Italian vehicle designer Pininfarina SpA, with the discussions in the final stages... After talks stalled months ago, the companies are now seeking to complete negotiations in the next few days, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private. There are still some issues to sort out, with the most important ones being the final purchase price and how to manage Pininfarina’s debt... Pincar Srl, Pinfarina’s controlling shareholder, said that talks with Mahindra over the sale of its stake were ongoing and that it will inform investors if any deal is reached. After reports that the creditors of Italian design studio and coachbuilder Pininfarina had rejected an offer from India’s Mahindra, reports are now coming in that a deal between the two companies is nigh...
