* Indiana - Andy Mohr wins $6.5M in dispute with Volvo Trucks

-- Andy Mohr Truck Center has won a $6.5 million jury award in a breach-of-contract suit against Volvo Trucks North America... The verdict in federal court in Indianapolis this week is a rare win for a dealer suing a vehicle manufacturer, and it has caught the attention of auto dealers nationally... Mohr, one of Central Indiana’s best-known car dealers, had a falling out with Volvo soon after taking over its Indianapolis truck dealership on South Holt Road in 2010... Volvo accused Mohr in a 2012 lawsuit of not fulfilling promises to build a new dealership facility for Volvo, buy $1 million in Volvo parts and achieve market dominance in truck sales with the Volvo franchise... Mohr countersued, saying his agreement with Volvo didn’t spell out any of those promises in writing. He contended that Volvo broke a verbal promise to award him the Mack Trucks franchise for Indianapolis, which it also controlled. He also accused Volvo of price discrimination for not offering the same discounts on truck purchases that it offered other dealers in similar markets... Jury awards damages for price discrimination claims for truck sales...

** Washington - Paccar teaches trucks to phone home for help through the cloud

-- Fleet operators now instantly know when a Paccar truck is having an engine problem, and can direct it to the nearest service center... The new technology, which Paccar’s Kenworth division calls TruckTech+ and the Peterbilt division calls SmartLinq, is now standard on all trucks powered by Paccar’s MX engines, said Jason Skoog, assistant general manager for Kenworth... The key to the new Paccar notification system is simplicity — indicator lights on the truck’s dashboard signal to the driver what he or she needs to do, Skoog said... When the indicator lights up yellow, a message pops up on a small dashboard screen over the steering wheel that tells the driver to seek service soon but continue driving. When it's orange, the driver is instructed to go immediately to the nearest service center. When the light turns red, that means pull over and don’t drive... The information is sent out in two layers: simple and immediate for the driver and detailed for the fleet operator...
