TRUCKMAKERS NEWS * USA: Paccar's in EU

* Washington - Paccar among truck makers under investigation by EU

Bellevue,WASH,USA -The Seattle Times, by Coral Garnick -December 2, 2014: -- Paccar is one of several heavy- and medium-duty truck producers under investigation by the European Commission for possible anticompetitive practices in the European Union... The commission has concerns that certain truck makers may have agreed to or coordinated pricing in Europe, which would violate EU antitrust rules prohibiting cartels and restrictive business practices... The commission began investigating the heavy- and medium-duty truck industry in January 2011. On Nov. 20, it sent a “statement of objections” to each suspected company involved, informing them of it suspicions of anticompetitive practices... The commission did not name all the companies involved, but Paccar, the parent company to DAF Trucks in Europe, has included the investigation in Securities and Exchange Commission documents since the investigation was announced. Volvo has also said it is involved... Sending the statement of objections does not prejudge the outcome of the investigation, the commission said in a statement. According to Paccar, it is a procedural step, but the commission has indicated it will seek to impose fines on the manufacturers... In an SEC filing Monday, Paccar said it is unable to predict the outcome of the proceeding or estimate the potential fine at this time...
