Detroit,MICH,USA -SuccessfullDealer, by Lucas Deal -September 10, 2014: -- Peloton, Denso and Meritor WABCO showcased the latest innovation in truck fuel efficiency and safety technology, multi-truck platooning, during a press event Tuesday at the World Congress for Intelligent Transportation Systems in Detroit... Designed featuring technology from all three businesses, Peloton’s soon-to-be-released truck platooning software it's a system working in conjunction with DSRC radio technology from Denso and Meritor WABCO collision mitigation and safety control systems... Chuck Price, vice president of cloud services at Peloton says, the system uses radio transmissions to control all factors of a platoon... For example, when two trucks are traveling on an open highway and want to platoon, Price says Peloton’s system will identify the location of the trucks, which truck should be routed in front and behind, and the distance thaTECHNOLOGYt will be kept between the two units... Then, when the trucks reach a reasonable distance from each other, the two drivers engage switches in the cab that start the program, and the trucks are pulled together to the pre-decided distance... The drivers are still needed to steer, but once engaged, the trucks’ speed and braking are controlled by the platoon system, Price says. And while drivers can still manually override the system to brake in emergencies, Peloton says the technology is designed to use collision mitigation systems on each tractor to sense and slow the trucks when danger is close...
* New Brunswick / Canada - Maritime truckers roll with Volvo-Bendix Stability Tech
Wilmot Parish,N.B.,CAN -Today's Trucking, by Andy Walker -Sep 10, 2014: -- As he waited his turn for a test drive demonstrating the Volvo Enhanced Stability Technology (VEST) system, Robbie Acheson admitted to being a little skeptical it could prevent roll-overs... The president of County Line Trucking in Wilmot, New Brunswick, was one of over 40 industry professionals gathered at the Moncton Coliseum recently for the first demonstration held in the Atlantic region by Volvo and Bendix. In addition to VEST, participants learned about Volvo Enhanced Cruise with active braking... Acheson’s suspicions disappeared when the VEST demonstration driver negotiated a series of obstacles that saw the trailer full of close to 8,000 gallons of water tip precariously, but then was righted almost as quickly by the system...
