Washington,DC,USA -The Car Connection, by Suzanne Kane -Sep 10, 2013: -- Toyota is recalling certain 2006 through 2011 Toyota RAV4 SUVs and 2010 Lexus HS 250h hybrids in a second recall for the same rear suspension problem... A notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website puts the number of vehicles potentially affected by the recall at 780,584... According to the NHTSA bulletin, affected vehicles were built from October 2005 through September 2010... In Toyota documentation submitted to the NHTSA, the automaker said that “if the nuts for adjusting the rear wheel alignment are improperly tightened during service, the rear suspension arm (rear tie rod) may develop unwanted movement and rust leading to thread damage and eventual failure” ... Failure of the rear tie rod will cause an abrupt change in the vehicle’s alignment, resulting in loss of vehicle control and increasing crash risk...
* DC - NHTSA investigates 2013 BMW 328i for potential braking flaw

Washington,DC,USA -The Car Connection, by Richard Read -Sep 10, 2013: -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation into the 2013 BMW 328i. According to a summary report posted to the NHTSA website, the agency has received four complaints about the model... All four of the complaints cite issues with the braking system in the 328i, including "incidents of hard brake pedal, increased braking effort and increased stopping distances". Thankfully, no accidents or fatalities have been associated with the problem... The vacuum pump is cited as the underlying problem in three of the four reports... NHTSA's preliminary evaluation of BMW customer complaints is the first in a three-step recall process. If the agency determines that there's an underlying problem with the 328i, it will launch an engineering analysis, potentially leading to a full recall. Should that happen, NHTSA estimates that some 90,000 vehicles will be affected...
