* USA - New Chevy Cruze diesel gets 46 mpg on highway
Detroit,MICH,USA -The Detroit News, by Melissa Burden -April 18, 2013: -- General Motors Co. said Thursday its all-new 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel achieves an Environmental Protection Agency-rated 46 miles per gallon on the highway, which is the best highway fuel economy of any non-hybrid car in the United States... That's higher than GM said in February, when it announced the Cruze diesel would get 42 mpg on the highway. Chevy said testing was still under way at the time... The Detroit automaker said the car, with a six-speed automatic transmission, can travel 700 highway miles on one tank of fuel...
* Michigan - GM global sales hit 2.36 million in 1Q, top VW

GM said Tuesday that it sold 2.36 million vehicles worldwide from January to March, 3.6 percent more than the first quarter of 2012...
* Maryland - GM building electric motors for new Spark EV in U.S.
White Marsh,Baltimore,MD,USA -The Detroit News, by David Shepardson -April 17, 2013: -- General Motors Co. said Tuesday it has launched production of electric motors for its new Chevrolet Spark EV, which will go on sale in June... Until now, electric motors and drive units have been mostly imported, but GM won government funding to help build the motors at its Baltimore Operations plant in White Marsh... The Spark EV electric motor will produce 130 hp, or 100 kW, and 400 lb-ft of torque to deliver acceleration of less than 8 seconds from 0 to 60 mph. The Spark EV will be sold in California and Oregon this summer and sales will expand to Canada, Europe and South Korea later this year...
