Washington,DC,USA -The Detroit News, by By David Shepardson -April 4, 2013: ... Automaker Hyundai Motor Co. and affiliate Kia Motors Co. on Wednesday said, it would recall more than 2.2 million vehicles in North America in three recall campaigns involving problems with brake light switches and air bags...  It is one of the largest-ever callbacks of vehicles by the Korean automakers, and includes about 1.9 million U.S. vehicles... The recalls follow an announcement last week that NHTSA is opening an investigation into nearly 400,000 2006-08 Hyundai Sonatas because of rear suspension control arm failures related to rear subframe rust ...   In the latest recalls announced Wednesday, Hyundai said it is recalling 1.06 million vehicles in the United States for a host of problems resulting from defective brake light switches. Kia is recalling 623,000 vehicles to address the same issue. Hyundai had already recalled earlier-model vehicles in 2009 because of defective switches...   Hyundai said Wednesday the brake-light switch condition could result in intermittent operation of brake lights. It can also interfere with the push-button start and cruise control; prevent movement of the shifter from "park"; and light up the electronic stability control indicator. The recall also covers 255,000 Hyundai vehicles in Canada and 106,000 Kias in Canada...
