* Indiana -  ACT : February's Class 8 orders reach highest level in 12 months


Columbus,IND,USA -Truck News (CAN) -Mar 5, 2013: -- North American heavy-duty Class 8 preliminary net orders for February rose both month-over-month and year-over-year, narrowly besting October 2012 to reach their highest reading since January 2012, while medium-duty orders exhibited strong growth, according to the latest figures from ACT Research... The final numbers, which will be released mid-March, will approach 23,300 units for heavy-duty Class 8 and 16,400 for medium-duty Classes 5-7 vehicles and trucks. The preliminary net order numbers are typically accurate to within 5% of actual, according to ACT officials...


* Michigan - Ford rolls out new Transit models, propane power

Dearborn,MICH,USA -Fleet Owner. by Sean Kilcarr -Mar. 5, 2013: -- Ford Motor Co. is rolling out two new variations of its Transit light vehicle – a chassis cab and cutaway model – while expanding its portfolio of compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquid propane gas (LPG) alternative fuel propulsion packages... The Transit cutaway is similar to the chassis cab, the rear of the passenger compartment is open so it can be paired with specialty body modules such as shuttle or school bus bodies... The chassis cab and cutaway will both be offered in three wheelbases, 138, 156 or 178 inches, and gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWRs) from 9,000 lbs. to 10,360 lbs... Ford also plans to provide a 3.7L V6 engine for the Transit with a CNG/LPG prep kit, as the OEM said more businesses and commercial customers are seeking relief from constantly fluctuating petroleum fuel prices...


* Indiana - Interest in natural gas-powered trucks continues to grow

Indianapolis,IND,USA -Truck News, by James Menzies -Mar 5, 2013: -- North American truck sales may have slowed in the latter stages of 2012, but orders for natural gas trucks are bucking the trend... Freightliner has 520 natural gas trucks on order already this year, while it sold 720 units last year and 2,000 natural gas-powered trucks over the last four years... There was a heightened buzz about natural gas at this year’s Green Truck Summit, which precedes the NTEA Work Truck Show. Robert Carrick, sales manager, natural gas with Freightliner Trucks, said customers are showing “waning interest” in hybrids, which has been reflected in sales...
