(Photo: The Lamborghini's Veneno is powered by a 750-hp 6.5-liter V12)
Sant'Agata Bolognese,Italy -Gizmag, by C.C. Weiss -March 5, 2013: -- For years, Lamborghini has been looking to the skies for inspiration. The all-new Veneno takes sharp, angular jet-inspired design to an extreme level. Lamborghini will build only a handful of these hardcore racecars-for-the-road... If you've been following the evolution of Lamborghini's jet-inspired design, you may have wondered: How far can they take it? Well, it seems that the Veneno provides an answer. At least we hope it's the answer ... the only answer... While past designs blended sharp, military-like lines with the usual sensuous Lamborghini curves and design sensibilities, the Veneno lets those lines run wild with no particular destination. The Veneno comes across as a visual amalgamation of an F1 race car, and stealth bomber... As it enjoys doing, Lamborghini named its newest concept after a fighting bull, which it describes as one of the strongest, fastest and most aggressive ever...

(Photo: The Toyota FT-86 Open Concept)
Toyota City,Aichi Prefecture,Japan -Gizmag, by David Szondy -March 5, 2013: ... Toyota unveil the FT-86 Open Concept at the Geneva Motor Show... The FT-86 Open Concept is the latest iteration of the project begun in partnership with Subaru... The soft-top convertible retains the 2+2 seating arrangement combined with the new multi-layered fabric roof and glass screen that folds down behind the fixed rear seats without intruding too much on the boot... The FT-86 Open Concept uses the same horizontally-opposed, two-liter, four-cylinder boxer engine and Toyota’s D-4S direct injection technology. The rear-wheel drive has the choice of a short-throw, six-speed manual or flappy-paddle gearbox, which Toyota says is the world’s fastest with response times of 0.2 seconds... Toyota didn’t give any performance statistics, but if the FT-86 Open Concept matches the GT86, it should put out about 200 bhp (149 kW), have a top speed of 145 mph (233 km/h) and do 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in six seconds... No decision has yet been made as to whether the FT-86 Open Concept will go into production...

(Image: Subaru Viziv Concept debuting at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show)
Shinjuku,Tokyo,Japan -Gizmag, by Darren Quick -March 5, 2013: -- Given the popularity of CUVs (crossover utility vehicles) among consumers, it’s not surprising that this segment is popular ground for auto manufacturers developing concept vehicles. Subaru’s latest CUV concept, which it has dished up at this year’s Geneva Auto Show, is the Viziv. The company describes the Viziv – a name somehow derived from “Vision for Innovation” – as a crossover vehicle with a hybrid powertrain that gives a hint at Subaru’s future design direction and technologies... The Viziv features a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.0-liter Horizontally-Opposed Subaru Boxer diesel engine mated to a high-torque Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). This is combined with three electric motors – one at the front that both drives the front wheels and generates power for the lithium-ion battery pack, and two independent motors at the rear for driving the rear wheels... While it might be a two-door, the concept car is a four-seater with the oversized butterfly door panels on either side opening upwards to provide access to both the front and rear seats. The doors contribute to the design aims of striking a balance between a “solid-looking body and a condensed cabin” ...

The Swedish automaker put the finishing touches on the car in time for this week's Geneva Motor Show... Highlights include developing the once-fastest car in the world, the CCR, building an acceleration-deceleration king in the Agera R, and securing a number of automotive awards...
