* Germany - Volkswagen reveals urban van of the future

 -Commercial Motor, by George Barrow -5 March 2013: -- Volkswagen has unveiled its version of an ultra-modern delivery van at the Geneva Motor Show, with the electrically powered e-Co-Motion concept... According to VW, the priorities in an urban CV are manoeuvrability, a small footprint and good all-round visibility with a high seat position... Vehicles should also have a low cargo floor height, whilst offering a large load volume and be capable of being converted into multiple iterations... Powered by an electric motor paired to the rear axle, the maximum claimed power output for the e-Co-Motion is 85kW with 270Nm of torque. It is also said to achieved the first of Volkswagen’s key objectives with a 8.95m turning circle, thanks to the larger than normal turning angles of the front axle... 


* Switzerland - New Ford Courier emerges as people carrier

Geneve, Swiss -Commercial Motor, by George Barrow -5 March 2013: -- Ford has revealed the first glimpse of its next new commercial vehicle by unveiling a people carrier version of the forthcoming Courier van at the Geneva Motor Show... Based on the company’s new small-car platform, the Tourneo Courier is a compact people carrier measuring 4.16m, capable of transporting up to five people, but the CV version will forgo the rear seats, while retaining the sliding rear doors, to provide a useable loadspace... Power for the Tourneo Courier will come from two Duratorq TDCi diesel engines, a 1.5-litre producing 74hp and a 1.6-litre generating 94hp, and a 1-litre EcoBoost petrol engine producing 99hp. The new model will be manufactured at the Kocaeli plant in Turkey, and will be launched in spring 2014...


* Japan - Mitsubishi's highly-distinctive GR-HEV diesel-hybrid pick-up concept

Minato,Tokyo,Japan -Gizmag, by Mike Hanlon -March 5, 2013: -- Mitsubishi's Concept GR-HEV combination a sedan interior and comfort levels with a diesel-hybrid pickup truck with an exterior quite unlike anything we've previously seen. The hybrid drivetrain is billed as a next generation drive system that combines the company's Super Select 4WD (SS4) and S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) systems, a 2.5L diesel engine and an electric motor of unspecified power to achieve CO2 emissions of 149 g/km... The SS4 drive mode system allows the driver to select four drive modes so drivers can choose the appropriate ratio range for their purposes – from a longer set of ratios for fuel-efficient driving through three sets of ratios suitable for a range of terrains... The GR-HEV is also fitted with an AC power supply system, effectively adding some very useful functionality for those who might use it as a working vehicle, or for charging the batteries on boats, and other recreational toys...
