* California - Mercedes Benz off-roader of the future – the Ener-G-Force

Los Angeles,CAL,USA -Gizmag, by Noel McKeegan -November 18, 2012: -- What will highway patrol vehicles look like in 2025? That's the question posed by this year's LA Auto Show Design Challenge, and Mercedes-Benz has answered with the Ener-G-Force design concept... Despite the brief, the company's North American R and D team hasn't totally abandoned the past in looking to the future however, conceiving a rugged, fuel-cell driven concept based on the G-Class that would produce its own hydrogen from water on the fly...  Designers from the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studio in California have interpreted this brief with a concept vehicle that, while based on the classic G-Class, would cater for the increased congestion and energy-saving pressures that we can expect more than a decade from now ... as well as retaining some serious off-road capability...

* Japan - Toyota hit by another recall affecting 75K cars

Nakamura-ku,Nagoya,Japan -Car and Vans News -Nov 14, 2012: -- Toyota has been forced to issue its second recall notice in a month to fix problems with its cars... This time the issue is with the steering, potentially affecting 75,000 UK-registered Avensis, Corolla and Prius models... This time the fault lies with a component in the steering system – splines which have not been hardened properly can wear out causing a knocking or rattling and “possibly a reduction in steering response” ... According to Toyota the vehicle will remain safe to drive and in nine cases so far reported in Europe, no accidents have resulted. No currently on-sale cars are affected... Toyota says the repairs, which will be free of charge, will involve dealers inspecting the extension shaft and the water pump and if necessary replacing them...
