* Minnesota - Trucker hero recounts rescue of victims from fiery crash
Shakopee,MN,USA -Land Line, by Clarissa Kell-Holland -19 Oct 2012: -- Victor Jordan says he truly believes he was in the right place at the right time around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16, because he just can’t explain it any other way... Jordan, an OOIDA member from Shakopee, MN, said that until Tuesday, he had never saved anyone’s life before. However, within 30 seconds after a fiery crash that occurred right in front of him, he was able to stop his rig and run the 75 yards or so from his truck to save the lives of three people... The crash occurred at the intersection of U.S. 52 and State Route 302 between a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer, in Ashland County, OH. The two vehicles slammed into a nearby house. All both vehicles and the house caught on fire. He was able to pull free the truck driver and two of the pickup’s passengers. The driver of the pickup died at the scene... On that day, Jordan remembers making a wrong turn, then after getting turned around, he was slowed down again by a horse and buggy on the road. Just seconds after he was able to maneuver around the horse and buggy, he witnessed the crash...
* California - CARB calls its diesel rules awareness month a success
Sacramento,CAL,USA -Land Line, by Charlie Morasch -18 Oct 2012: -- CARB spent the month of September inspecting trucks and monitoring compliance of the state’s diesel emissions rules as part of its “Gear Up for Clean Truck Month” campaign... After inspecting 4,053 trucks at 40 different locations, CARB says about 80 percent of trucks meet the state’s multiple diesel regulations – a score that prompted the air quality agency to call the effort a success... For CARB’s Truck and Bus Rule – which requires the retrofit of diesel particulate filters for trucks with 1996 through 1998 model year engines – trucks inspected had a 90 percent compliance rate...
* Minnesota - C.H. Robinson Sells T-Chek for $300 Million

Robinson Worldwide said late Tuesday it has sold its payment services business, T-Chek Systems, to Electronic Funds Source for $302.5 million in cash... T-Chek, which has been a subsidiary of C.H. Robinson since 1984, had annual payment services net revenue of $49.3 million and operating income of $24.6 million in 2011... T-Chek is a business-to-business provider of spending management and payment processing services. Its technology supports a variety of funds transfer, vendor payment, fuel purchasing and online expense management tools...
* Ohio - Giant Eagle intends to buy new Volvo CNG trucks

Pittsburgh,OH,USA -The Pittsburgh Business Times, by Anya Litvak -October 19, 2012: -- A partnership between Giant Eagle and Volvo has birthed a new, giant baby — the world’s first Volvo truck with a 12-liter Cummins compressed natural gas engine... Spokesman for Volvo trucks in North America, says there were other companies for whom the idea of putting a CNG engine in a heavy duty truck also made sense and that’s why the truck manufacturer started churning out these vehicles last year. Volvo first started making a truck with an 8.9-liter CNG engine, also from Cummins, last year, and Giant Eagle was the first recipient of that vehicle...
