* Brazil - GM says it's making progress on details of alliance with Peugeot 
Sao Paulo,SP,Brazil -Bloomberg News/The Detroit News, by Tim Higgins - October 22, 2012: -- General Motors Co. is making headway on implementing its alliance with PSA Peugeot Citroen, Chief Executive Officer, Dan Akersonsaid yesterday in Sao Paulo, ahead of this week's auto show... GM said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission it wants to sign agreements with Peugeot on product- development, vehicle-supply and powertrain-supply plans by the end of October... Efforts to iron out details of the GM-Peugeot alliance slowed amid a worsening European auto market and regulatory review, people familiar with the matter have said... A GM-PSA purchasing announcement may come before the end of this month or in early November, Akerson told reporters at a media event...

Closely related to the Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Encore hatchbacks sold in the United States, the 1.4-litre-engined Onix comes with a six-speed automatic and Chevy's MyLink infotainment system, two features that are new for Brazilian buyers in the segment...


* Germany - VW's Audi may help Mercedes overtake BMW in U.S. sales contest 
Wolfsburg,Germany -Bloomberg News/The Detroit News, by Tim Higgins -October 22, 2012: -- Volkswagen AG's Audi brand, beginning a push to improve customer service at its U.S. dealerships, may be the spoiler in the U.S. luxury vehicle sales race, helping Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz by shearing buyers from Bayerische Motoren Werke AG's BMW... The U.S. luxury sales race looks to be heading for another close finish between Mercedes and BMW. Mercedes is ahead of BMW by 5,221 deliveries this year through September after finishing 2,715 behind in 2011. A contest once dominated by Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus, No. 1 for 11 straight years, is now volatile, making it difficult for BMW to repeat... The U.S. is a significant piece of the tightening global sales race, where fast-growing Audi is closing in on BMW and both lead Mercedes. Audi models, with their reputations for sporty driving, are more often compared with BMW's than with Mercedes vehicles, according to data provided by Edmunds.com, a website that tracks online shopping...

 * DC / USA - 2011-2012 Jeep Patriot Models Investigated For Stalling Issue

Washington,DC,USA -The Car Connection, by Bengt Halvorson -Oct 19, 2012: -- Late-model Jeep Patriot compact crossovers may have an issue with stalling, and federal safety officials are looking into a series of complaints... Earlier this week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a Defect Investigation on Jeep Patriot utility vehicles from the 2011 and 2012 model years... The agency notes that there have been twelve formal complaints alleging incidents of engine stalling in 2011-2012 Jeep Patriot models... What makes this case so unusual—and perhaps a more serious safety concern—is that in ten of these incidents, the stalling occurred at speeds of 65 mph or higher. And in one instance, that stalling is alleged to have caused an accident and resulting injury...
