* Truckload Rate Hikes Slowed in April
St. Louis,MISS,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by William B. Cassidy -May 14, 2012: -- Line-haul pricing index rose at a slower year-over-year pace, was flat with March... Truckload rates decelerated in April, rising 6.9 percent year-over-year, compared with a 7.4 percent increase in March, according to Cass Information Systems... On a sequential monthly basis, truckload rates were flat in April from March, with a freight shift to intermodal rail keeping truckload rates stable, Cass said Friday... The Cass Truckload Linehaul Index has been slipping since January, when it ticked up slightly from December to 109.4. By March, it had dropped to 108.2... The Cass Intermodal Linehaul Index rose 2.4 percent from a year ago, its first year-over-year increase since December, climbing to its second highest value ever...
* FTR Forecasts Higher Truck Rates
Nashville,IND,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by William B. Cassidy -May 14, 2012: -- Shipper index held ‘steady’ in March, but research firm sees rocky road ahead... Shippers can expect more upward pressure on truck pricing through the fall as available capacity tightens, according to research firm FTR Associates... FTR’s Shippers Condition Index for March improved slightly from February, rising from -5.6 to -5.3, the research firm said Monday... A reading below 0 indicates “unfavorable” conditions for shippers. Unfavorable in this case means trucking operators have the upper hand in price negotiations... But FTR expects tight capacity, the effect of new regulations and rising operating costs will push truck rates higher as freight demand rises through the fall...
