* DC - U.S. factory output rose in April on stronger autos

Busier factories have driven stronger hiring this year and helped the economy grow. The Federal Reserve said Wednesday that factory production rose 0.6 percent in April, erasing a 0.5 percent decline in March. Half of the April increase reflected a 3.9 percent jump in the production of motor vehicles and parts. That's the fifth consecutive gain at auto plants and the biggest rise since January... 

* Michigan - GM making 600 new hires at Lansing plant to build Cadillac ATS
 - General Motors Co. will hire a majority of new-to-GM employees as it adds a second shift at its Lansing Grand River assembly plant to build the Cadillac ATS, a plant official said Tuesday. The Detroit automaker has already hired 460 of the about 600 workers it will need for the second shift and has already identified the rest of those new hires, said Erin Davis, a Lansing Grand River plant spokeswoman...  * Nevada - Buffett's firm buys 10 million GM shares
 - Warren Buffett's company is apparently bullish on the U.S. auto industry. His company, Berkshire Hathaway Inc., took a new 10-million-share stake in General Motors Co. in the first quarter. The investment comes as the Detroit automaker continues to rebound from bankruptcy three years ago. It posted a first-quarter net income of $1 billion, fueled by U.S. vehicle sales... Read more

 - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday it has opened a preliminary investigation into 123,000 2012 Elantra cars over concerns that its air bags could improperly deploy after an owner said his ear was cut...
