* Michigan - Fire risk prompts recall of nearly 87,000 Jeeps

Detroit,MICH,USA -Associated Press/The Detroit News -May 19, 2012: -- Chrysler is recalling nearly 87,000 Jeep Wranglers in the U.S., Canada and elsewhere due to a risk of fires... The recall affects only Wranglers from the 2010 model year that have automatic transmissions and were built before July 14, 2010, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in documents posted Saturday on its website... Debris can get caught between a plate that protects the transmission and the catalytic converter, causing a fire. A catalytic converter is part of the exhaust system and uses heat and precious metals to control pollution...
* Japan - 2013 Lexus GS 350 F Sport Recalled For Steering Problem
Nagoya,Japan -The Car Connection, by Richard Read -May 21, 2012: -- Lexus is issuing a voluntary recall of its 2013 GS 350 F Sport sedan. The recall only affects 350s with rear-wheel drive; the all-wheel version of the 350 F Sport is not included... According to Lexus, the recall stems from a flaw in the vehicle's variable gear ratio steering, or VGRS. In some instances the electronic control unit (ECU) associated with the VGRS may not calibrate properly, which could result in some fairly serious steering problems for drivers...
* Texas - NHTSA probes fire in garage containing plug-in Fisker Karma
- U.S. auto safety regulators are investigating a Texas garage fire that destroyed a Fisker Automotive Inc. Karma, a $103,000 plug-in electric vehicle. A Texas investigator attributed the fire to a Fisker Karma.
