* The Netherlands - DAF looks for fuel savings in 7.5 -12 tonners
Eindhoven,The Netherlands -Commercial Vehicle (UK), by Kevin Swallow -9 March 2012: -- Paccar says its new aerodynamic body saves fuel without compromising cubic capacity... The factory fit Aero body designed for the Daf LF 7.5 to 12 tonne range has a moulded roof fairing and cab collars aerodynamically integrated with the cab, a curved front part of the body and rear tailgate air diffuser over the rear frame... The manufacturer claims it can save up to 8% in fuel at cruising speed and has 98% of the cubic capacity of a conventional 'square' box body... Rental company Ryder is the first to take the Aero body placing an order for two 7.5 tonne LF45.160s...
* Report: Indian truck segment to move to a strong mid-market
Chennai,India -My Digital/Financial Chronicle, by G Balachandar -Mar 07 2012: -- Truck manufacturers have to focus on the rapidly growing ‘mid-market’ segment, which will seek to offer higher quality at affordable prices, in BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) markets over the next decade for revenue and profit growth, according to US-based management consultancy Boston Consulting Group (BCG)... Today, the global truck market is dominated by two broad segments — low cost and premium. The low-cost segment is concentrated in emerging markets, while the premium one in mature markets. But a newly emerging mid-market is likely to become the dominant sector over the next decade, pointed out a report of BCG... The shift to the mid-market will be driven by an upgrading of demand in the BRIC markets as a result of government action (with governments acting as both the regulators and the suppliers of infrastructure), the increasing demands of customers, and the professionalisation of the transportation industry... The report noted that BRIC customers will want more sophisticated vehicles, and big sales increases will be in the mid-market rather than in the premium segment. Truck buyers will apply a more sophisticated understanding of costs. Fleet management has become more professional in the BRIC markets, and purchasing choices once made on the basis of the initial sales price are increasingly guided by total cost of ownership (TCO), which will favour mid-market vehicles...
