* Sweden - Scania switches supply chain fuel

Södertälje,Sweden -Scania PR -5 March 2012: -- Scandinavian truck giant, Scania, has switched its fleet of internal transport service trucks at its production facilities in Sweden to renewable bioethanol fuel, rather than fossil-fuel sourced diesel, in order to reduce its impact on the climate... This should cut the carbon dioxide emissions from its eight goods transport vehicles in Sodertalje, Sweden by 70 per cent. The reduction is equal to that of 12 homes heated by fossil-fuel based electricity...* Sweden - Active Braking added to Volvo Enhanced Cruise
Greensboro,NC,USA -Truck News (CAN) -2 March 2012: -- Volvo has added a new Active Braking feature to its Volvo Enhanced Cruise (VEC), which provides automatic braking when a collision is imminent even when the vehicle is not in cruise control... Previously, VEC would intervene by dethrottling the engine, activating the engine brake and applying up to one-third of the service brake pressure when a rear-end collision was about to occur, but only when the truck was in cruise control. Audible alerts would be issued whether or not the truck was in cruise... Now, Volvo has announced, VEC with Active Braking will dethrottle the engine and apply up to two-thirds of the service brake pressure even if cruise is not active...
