* Germany - Truck and Car Makers Association VDA Cuts Outlook For West Europe
Frankfurt,Germany -Fox Business/Dow Jones Newswires (USA) -March 04, 2012: -- German auto industry association VDA has cut its forecast for the Western European car market in 2012, but expects stronger-than-expected growth in the U.S. to offset deteriorating demand in Europe... VDA president, Matthias Wissmann, said car sales in Western Europe could decline by up to 5% in 2012 compared with a year earlier... He added, however, that demand might improve if concerns about the sovereign-debt crisis ease in the coming months... VDA's revised forecast for Europe helps explain why France's PSA Peugeot Citroen and U.S. auto giant General Motors Co. announced a wide-ranging cost-saving partnership last week to prop up their unprofitable European car-manufacturing operations... Wissmann said sales of cars and light trucks in the U.S. will likely rise almost 8% to 13.7 million in 2012, up from a previous forecast anticipating a gain of around 5% from a year earlier to 13.4 million cars... Wissmann added, German auto makers have no reason to panic in the face of Asian competition as fuel-efficient technology such as modern diesel engines give them a competitive edge in Europe and abroad, including the USA...
* Worldwide - Is the Market Cresting For Heavy Duty Truck Makers?
(China and India are two of the world's largest markets for heavy trucks, with emerging markets like Brazil not far behind. Paccar is pursuing those emerging markets primarily through its Dutch truck subsidiary DAF)

The question now is how much longer the good times will last... North American orders for Class 8 trucks — the big, 18-wheeled kind — are at their highest level in years, continuing an industry rebound that began in 2010. Analysts see further growth this year... Orders are also up in India, where heavy spending for new highways and infrastructure has opened up more demand for trucks... On the worrisome side, truck sales are trending down in China, the world's biggest market. Part of that is due to tough prior-year comparisons. But sales have also been hurt by excess inventories and sluggish demand... Meanwhile, economic uncertainty in Europe has caused some heavy-duty parts suppliers to scale back production, putting a squeeze on some parts supplies... Still, most analysts remain bullish on the overall environment for companies that supply trucks, engines and aftermarket parts to truck makers...* USA - Cummins Rides Global Truck Demand, But Outlook Cloudy
Los Angeles,CAL,USA -Investors, by SCOTT STODDARD -2 March 2012: -- Cummins, a maker of diesel and other types of engines, has been riding strong global demand for trucks over the past few years. However, profit growth at the Columbus, Ind.-based company is slowing... Economic uncertainty in Europe and slower demand in China, the world's biggest market for large trucks, has clouded the company's outlook. But analysts expect modest increases in demand over the next couple of years amid rising orders in India, truck-friendly stimulus measures in China and steady demand for newer, cleaner-burning trucks in the USA, its biggest market...
