Columbus,OH,USA -The Daily Jeffersonian, by Rick Stillion -February 26, 2012: -- Motorists traveling through Ohio have another tool to help them traverse some of the state's highway system in a timely manner... Speed sensors are being installed as part of the Ohio Department of Transportation's Freeway Management System to help motorists better plan their travel routes... The sensor installations at two-mile intervals on Interstate 70 are expected to be completed by the summer, covering both eastbound and westbound traffic... The sensors will span the state from the Indiana state line to the West Virginia state line collecting speed data every minute that is sent to BuckeyeTraffic.org -- the state's premier traffic website... An average of 50,000 vehicles travel daily on I-70 between Columbus and West Virginia, according to ODOT statistics... The information collected by ODOT also helps determine how quickly traffic returns to normal speeds following weather-related incidents and accidents... Labels: infrastructures, smart roads
