* Illinois - Navistar partners with fleet to develop 'ultra-lightweight' tractor

Lisle,ILL,USA -Truck News (CAN) -Mar 2, 2012: -- Navistar has presented a Strategic Partnership Award to customer Perdue Farms for collaborating in the development of an “ultra-lightweight tractor specification” and “state-of-the-art tractor-trailer electronics integration” ...  The developments, Navistar announced, have reduced fuel consumption, increased payload and improved reliability...  The companies also leveraged Navistar’s Diamond Logic electrical system for the ProStar+ to better integrate tractor-trailer driver controls from the cab. Drivers could control lights, top door openings, boom positioning and augers from inside the cab via a fully-integrated wiring system with fewer electrical connections...


* Canada - CAW plans to sue for severance from Navistar

Chatham,ONT,CAN -CBC News -Mar 5, 2012 : -- The CAW has decided to take truck maker Navistar to court... President Ken Lewenza said the union plans to sue in an effort to win a decent severance agreement for the former workers at the closed truck plant in Chatham... The former workers threw their support behind the lawsuit at an information meeting Sunday. Lewenza said the former workers are frustrated because negotiations have gone nowhere after seven months... Last week, Lewenza said Navistar threw down an ultimatum when company officials said their offer on the table was final. Lewenza said it doesn't even meet the minimum standards for pensions and severance... Company officials have not responded to the proposed action by the CAW...


* Kansas - EV maker debuts new FedEx van

Kansas,KN,USA -The Commercial Appeal -March 7, 2012: -- Kansas City-based Smith Electric Vehicles Corp. is showing an all-electric delivery van built for FedEx Express at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis this week... The maker of all-electric commercial vehicles on Tuesday unveiled a FedEx-branded Newton Step Van, a zero-emission truck with a walk-in body produced by Indiana-based Utilimaster... The van is designed for urban environments, with gross vehicle weight of 7 to 13 tons and a 100-mile range on a single charge...
