* Virginia - Volvo looking to solid 2012

Blacksburg,VA,USA -The Burgs -February 12, 2012: -- Hiring and production gains are boosting confidence that 2012 will be a solid year at Volvo Trucks North America, whose sole vehicle assembly plant is in Pulaski County...  The Swedish-owned company said it sold 23,820 heavy duty trucks last year, compared with 12,100 in 2010 in North American markets... The company is coming off a good year. Volvo said its North American retail market share grew from 9.6 percent to 12.1 percent. While it marked the largest market-share gain of any heavy duty truck maker, the company still ranks fifth. The Volvo-owned Mack brand is sixth. The plant employs 2,200 after recalling 700 or so in the past year...


* Michigan - Chrysler is the number one light truck maker

Auburn Hill,MICH,USA -Big Topics, by Richards -13 Feb 2012: -- Chrysler Group LLC, overtook Ford as the biggest seller of light trucks in Canada this year. This is due to the increased demand for fuel-efficient crossover sport-utility vehicles...  The category of light trucks includes pick ups, minivans and SUV’s. The sales of these light trucks grew as much as double the total auto deliveries in the first half of the 2011. Since January, Chrysler has led the deliveries last month. According to Scotia Capital Inc., Chrysler’s Dodge Journey model, which uses less gasoline than a traditional truck-based SUV... These sales have put Chrysler within less than 4,000 total deliveries of becoming the overall No. 2 automaker in the industry...


* Washington - Truck maker Paccar to source parts from India

Bellevue,WASH,USA -The Business Line (India) -Feb 2012: -- Truck maker Paccar today said it is tapping India for component sourcing and developing technology for its global operations, but has no plans at this point of time to sell or assemble products in the country...  The work at the technical centre has begun and the company will hire 200 employees by the end of this year...  The US-based Paccar, which is participating in the 11th Auto Expo (India) for the first time, has set up a technical centre in Pune in partnership with technology solutions company KPIT Cummins Infosystems Ltd...  In India, 300,000 trucks were sold in 2011 and the number is expected increase to 370,000 units by 2015, according to Mr Schulte...
