* Indiana - Class 8 net orders slide in January, but outlook still positive

Nahsville,IND,USA -Truck News (CAN) -7 Feb 2012: -- FTR Associates has released preliminary data showing January Class 8 truck total net orders of 24,906 units for all major North American OEM's. January orders were down 17% month-over-month from December and 9% lower versus January 2011. Although current orders show negative comparisons, FTR officials say the January activity is similar to that reported over the last six months and at close to 25,000 units remains in positive territory... "January's orders were firmly within our expectations. We continue to expect strong order activity as we finish the first quarter in preparation for the modestly robust freight environment that we anticipate for 2012," said Jonathan Starks, FTR's director of transportation analysis...


 * Washington - 73 years of profit for DAF

Bellevue,WASH,USA -Truck Europe, by Claude Yvens -1 Feb 2012: -- Following a good fourth quarter, Paccar finished the year with another positive net result, the 73rd in 73 years of existence. According to CEO Mark Pigott, “this excellent result and an operational cash-flow of 1.59 billion USD enable us to invest in new products, in the efficiency of our production and in extending our geographical coverage”. This growth has in particular been seen in the opening of a new DAF factory in Brazil and by taking a stake in the capital of Tatra in Europe...  Where Europe is concerned, a market in which sales of vehicles over 15 tonnes was up 33% to 244,000 units, DAF Trucks achieved a record market share of 15.5 %, the highest in its history. The forecast of Harrie Schippers, president of DAF, is nevertheless very vague for 2012: between 210,000 and 240,000 units for the global market, which would represent a decrease of up to 14 %...


* Illinois - Nissan rolls out ‘right-sized’ NV200 compact cargo van

Chicago,ILL,USA -Fleet Owner, by David Cullen -Feb 9, 2012: -- Widening the Class 1 commercial cargo-van segment by a third, Nissan North America rolled out its new Nissan NV200 compact cargo van - the second distinct van model in its commercial-vehicle portfolio— here yesterday afternoon at the Chicago Auto Show. According to NNA, the 2013 model is a “new entry point” for cargo van and small pickup buyers “looking for a compact, efficient alternative to their larger, less fuel-efficient vehicles” ... The NV200 joins the full-size NV Cargo van, which debuted last spring, as well as the recently announced Nissan NV Passenger, which goes on sale this spring...


* Florida - Hino awarded for supporting biodiesel

Orlando,FLA,USA -Truck News (CAN) -Feb 8, 2012: -- Hino Trucks was recognized this week by the National Biodiesel Board for promoting the fuel... Hino received the Eye on Biodiesel Impact Award for its promotion of the fuel... The National Biodiesel Board said Hino served as a "trailblazer" among manufacturers in supporting the use of B20 biodiesel blends in its engines...  The Board says Hino was the first manufacturer to support he use of B20 blends in a hybrid-electric truck as well as in its complete line of Classes 6 and 7 conventional trucks...  All 2011 and later model conventional trucks powered by Hino's own J-Series engines are approved for use with B20 biodiesel blends that are compliant to American Society for Testing and Materials standards...
