* Germany / USA - BMW, Daimler To Ramp Up Vehicle Production In U.S.

Frankfurt,Germany -Dow Jones/WSJ –January 13, 2012: -- German auto makers BMW AG and Daimler AG announced plans to ramp up production at their respective U.S. operations...  BMW, the world’s best-selling luxury-car maker, said it will invest nearly $900 million over the next three years on expanding its plant in Spartanburg, N.C., creating 300 new jobs in 2012 to launch a new sports-utility-vehicle named X4 to broaden its product line-up... Separately, Daimler said it will create 1,100 jobs and add a second shift to ramp up production at its Freightliner truck plant in Cleveland, N.C....   Daimler said the hiring process in Cleveland will begin in early February with the new production shift due to reach full capacity by September. The North American truck market has staged a dynamic recovery in recent months after a steep market downturn...  Daimler said particularly strong demand for heavy-duty long-haulage trucks has created back orders of up to six months for the Cascadia model in the U.S...  Daimler’s truck division is the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles by revenue and has contributed to the company’s strong earnings growth in recent quarters...


* USA - Google and Daimler Extend Partnership

Las Vegas,NEV,USA -Benz Insider, by Emmanuel -January 11, 2012: -- At the Consumer Electronics Show being held at Las Vegas, Daimler and Google announced a further strategic partnership to provide Daimler with ready access to its Google Maps API for Business. These Application Programming Interfaces are used for cloud-based, map-related applications, which Daimler vehicles will use...   As of 2011, Mercedes-Benz offers COMAND Online, a telematics system with cloud-based Mercedes-Benz apps that brings Google Street View, Panoramio and local search technologies to most Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. Mercedes-Benz customers also have the opportunity to send individualized routes from Google Maps to their vehicles, as Daimler is first-to-market with the implementation of this Google service...
