* USA - December's Class 8 Orders Second Best in Six Years

Columbus,IND,USA -Today's Trucking –20 Jan 2012: -- Looks like the preliminary data on class 8 trucks orders was on the mark... Class 8 orders, reported ACT Research today, were the second best order month in six years with net orders climbing to 30,293... When seasonally adjusted, December's orders were the best since April 2011 and resumed the strong trend that has been happening since August 2011... Meanwhile, demand for medium-duty vehicles remained a study in consistency: There were only 3,000 units separating the best and worst order months of 201, with December falling in the middle of the range...


* Illinois - Navistar Running Out Of Pollution Credits

Warrenville,ILL,USA -The WSJ -January 19, 2012: -- Truck maker Navistar International Corp. (NAV) is quickly running out of the pollution credits that have allowed the company to sell heavy-duty truck engines that don't meet the latest U.S. standards for diesel engine exhaust, according to California's Air Resources Board... Navistar will run out of pollution credits by the end of February... Navistar uses credits to comply with U.S. regulations on nitrogen oxide in diesel engine exhaust. The company says it will unveil a new engine soon that will meet federal standards...


* DC - Judge Dismisses Navistar’s SCR Lawsuit

Columbia,DC,USA -Transport Topics -20 Jan 2012: -- A federal judge rejected a request by Navistar Inc. to force the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to recall all 2010 trucks with selective catalytic reduction engines...  Navistar, maker of International Trucks and MaxxForce engines that exclusively use exhaust gas recirculation, had contended in a lawsuit that 2010 SCR engines using urea-based liquid to reduce emissions failed to comply with Clean Air Act standards...  U.S. District Judge, Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, granted EPA’s motion for summary judgment in a ruling issued Tuesday, dismissing Navistar’s lawsuit...


* North Caroline - Daimler Trucks' growth spurs jobs in Charlotte region. Addition of second shift at Rowan plant to have ripple effect

Charlotte,NC,USA -The Charlotte Business Journal, by Ken Elkins -January 20, 2012: -- Daimler Trucks North America’s plans to add a second shift at its huge Rowan County plant will boost its Charlotte region employment to the highest level since 2007... In fact, the truckmaker is just 900 workers shy of the record employment of five years ago, when the company employed 6,900 in three production facilities here... Portland, Ore.-based Daimler Trucks announced the 1,200-job Rowan County expansion — to 6,050 workers — last week... Each new job at the Daimler Trucks Rowan plant should create an additional 2.3 jobs among suppliers and service providers. The addition of a second shift will boost total employment at the plant to 2,750...
