TRUCKING STATISTICS * North America - NAFTA Trade Grows 18.1 Percent in July

Cross-border trade value fell 6.7 percent from previous month

Washington,DC,USA -The Journal of Commerce, by Joseph Bonney -Sep 27, 2011: -- The value of cross-border surface trade between the U.S., Canada and Mexico rose 18.1 percent year-over-year in July, the Transportation Department said... Cross-border trade value declined 6.7 percent from June. Month-to-month changes can be affected by seasonal variations and other factors... U.S.-Canada trade totaled $42.5 billion, up 17 percent year-over-year. U.S.-Mexico trade increased 19.7 percent to $29.9 billion. The value of cross-border trade in July was up 40.4 percent from its recession level of July 2009 but was only 1 percent above its July 2008 level...


* USA - Truck Tonnage Index Points to Higher Demand

The month-to-month decline in for-hire truck tonnage slowed in August, and tonnage levels rose more strongly from a year ago compared with July... The American Trucking Association’s For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index declined 0.2 percent from July to August, compared with a revised 0.8 percent drop in July. Year-over-year, the seasonally adjusted tonnage index rose 5.2 percent last month, compared with a 4.5 percent increase in July from the same month in 2010...


* Canada - Ground transportation costs rise 1.2% in July


 Toronto,ONT,Canada -Truck News -Sep 30, 2011: --  The cost of ground transportation for Canadian shippers increased 1.2% in July when compared to June, according to results published by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI)...  The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of fuel surcharges assessed by carriers, has increased for four consecutive months including a 1.4% increase in July. However, base rates remain 3.6% below the same period in July 2010...  Average fuel surcharges assessed by carriers declined from 19.3% of base rates in June to 19.0% in July...
