Orders fall for third straight month, but cancellations remain low and production stays solid

Columbus,IN,USA -The Journal of Commerce, by Mark Szakonyi -Aug 22, 2011:   ---   Heavy truck orders slowed for the third straight month in July, dropping 8.9 percent from June levels to 13,604, but cancellations remain low and production stays solid, ACT research said...  The decline in orders was much less than in May, when Class 8 orders fell almost 40 percent to 23,300 units from April, when transport operators ordered 38,100 tractors...  Vieth said truck manufacturers in July posted their highest daily build rate of this recovery cycle. Truck orders in July were up 74.2 percent year-over-year...


* Texas - Peterbilt offering more options for Model 382

* Illinois - International Offers New Lease Program


Warrensville,ILL,USA -Transport Topics -24 Aug 2011: -- Navistar Inc.’s International Trucks has introduced a lease program that includes back-to-back three-year leases with fixed payments over the six years...  The program, which International is calling Turn-in-Three, is being offered for the DuraStar and TerraStar medium-duty models...  The company also will provide a new truck after three years and the truck body will be transferred free of charge. Customers will be given a substitute truck to use while the transfer work is being completed, Navistar said...  The program includes 100% warranty coverage on both vehicles, with a full parts and labor warranty on the engine, chassis and complete drivetrain. The customer can walk away at the end of the six years or purchase the vehicle at market value...



* Canada - First Ram C/V rolls off assembly line

Windsor,ONT,CAN -Penton Media/Fleet Owner (USA) -Sep 1, 2011: -- The first 2012 Ram Cargo Van (C/V) has rolled off the assembly line at Chrysler Group’s Windsor (Ontario) Assembly Plant... The Ram Truck Brand vehicle has been designed for small business use. It is a Class 1 commercial vehicle with 1,800 lbs. of cargo payload and towing capability up to 3,600 lbs... A 20-gal. fuel tank is standard, and the vehicle is expected to achieve 25 mpg on the highway... The vehicle includes a “commercial-tuned ride” and heavy-duty suspension, the company said. A heavy-duty radiator and heavy-duty transmission oil cooler help meet heavier powertrain demands. It also includes hydraulic power-assist rack-and-pinion steering, front anti-sway bar, and rear twist-beam axle with coil springs... Also included as standard is electronic stability control, tire-pressure monitoring, and four-wheel anti-lock brakes. The Ram C/V has a maximum Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of 8,750 lbs...


* Michigan - Demand for Ford Transit Connect Electric Van Exceeds Expectations

Auburn Hills,MICH,USA -The Detroit Bureau -August 30, 2011: -- Early demand for the Ford Transit Connect Electric Van indicates orders could exceed the first year sales target of 700. The Ford van can reach 75 mph using its 28 kilowatt-hours of LIon batteries, with a nominal range of 80 miles per charge. Recharging takes about four hours using a Level II 220-volt charger. Signs are strong that the fleet market for electric vehicles could provide the initial spark for battery propulsion because the needs of many commercial customers are more in line with the limitations of electric propulsion, most notably range...
