* Illinois - Navistar is recalling trucks and buses
Washington,DC,USA -Safecar.gov -November 25, 2010: -- Navistar Inc, it's recalling 2309 units International's trucks 2011, models 4300 and 4400, manufactured from February 25, 2010, through September 20, 2010, because the engine turbo oil supply line may rub on the frame rail, possibly causing an oil leak in the engine compartment. * USA - Nissan recalling nearly 600,000 Frontier, Xterra vehicles
Franklin,TN,USA -Fleet Owner -Nov 23, 2010: -- Nissan North America (NNA) has announced a voluntary safety recall campaign to replace the lower steering column joint and shaft on Frontier and Xterra vehicles and the positive battery cable terminal on Sentra vehicles in several markets in North America. Recalls were also announced in South America and Africa. No accidents or injuries have been reported with either issue... Nissan recently discovered that in certain rare instances, the lower steering column joint can develop corrosion that limits the movement of the joint. If the vehicle continues to be driven in this condition it may, in an extreme case, lead to cracking of the steering shaft... This issue was discovered through three field reports from Canada, and six from Brazil... On some of the affected Sentra vehicles, an issue with the connector on the positive battery cable terminal could lead to difficulty starting the vehicle, and in rare cases, a possibility of stalling at low speeds...
* Wiscosin - Oshkosh diesel-electric hybrid concept for Baja 1000 desert race
Oshkosh,WI,USA -Gizmag, by Mike Hanlon -29 November 17, 2010: -- Oshkosh Corporation will be fielding a 400 bhp hybrid diesel-electric Light Concept Vehicle in the Baja 1000 desert race which begins later this week in Mexico. Perhaps even more interesting than the hybrid powertrain is its TAK-4 suspension which offers 20 inches of independent wheel travel... The accompanying images are the first available of the Oshkosh LCV which is unquestionably being developed with a view to playing a significant in-theater role for the American military. Oshkosh already has a number of commercially-available semi- and fully-autonomous vehicles and participated in all three of the DARPA Grand Challenges for autonomous vehicles with distinction. It’s hence not surprising that it should be putting some of its more advanced technologies into competition to see how they measure up in the no-compromise world of race engineering...
* USA - Profits up at Paccar
Bellevue,WASH,USA -Truck Europe (Belgium), by Michel Buckinx -2 Nov 2010: -- The Paccar group has announced an improvement in its turnover and profits for the third quarter of 2010. Net profits reached 119.9 million dollars (13 million in the third quarter of 2009) with consolidated turnover for the third quarter achieving 2.54 billion dollars in the third quarter (2.01 billion in 2009). In Europe, DAF now holds a 15.8% market share in the over 15 tonnes segment. As the economy recovers, sales of heavy trucks are expected to stand between 200,000 and 220,000 units in 2011...
