Peoria,ILL,USA -Truck News -Oct 26, 2010: -- The North American trucking industry will get its first look at the new Cat vocational truck at the Conexpo trade show in March... The company has announced the first model of a full line of Cat vocational trucks, the CT660, will be unveiled at the show on March 22, 2011. Production will begin after the show with customer deliveries to commence later that year, Cat has announced... The truck will be aimed at applications involving rock and trash haulage and concrete pouring. The truck has been designed with customer feedback in mind, the company says... * Daimler, Wal-Mart debut hybrid-electric Cascadia
Portland,OR,USA -Fleet Owner - Oct 26, 2010: -- Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has built its first-ever hybrid-electric Freightliner Cascadia. The truck, developed in cooperation with Wal-Mart, is based on a Wal-Mart spec for a 72-i. raised roof vehicle with a Detroit Diesel DD 15 engine... The truck is powered by a parallel hybrid system based on an electrically driven second drive axle. The system uses a lithium-ion-based energy storage and advanced electronic control algorithms that were developed in collaboration with the Daimler Trucks Global Hybrid Center in Japan... * Mack introduces NG-powered TerraPro Cabover
Allentown,PA,USA -Truck News -Oct 26, 2010: -- Mack Trucks has come out with a natural gas-powered version of its TerraPro Cabover model for refuse and construction applications... The new version comes with a heavy-duty natural gas engine from Cummins Westport. The 9-litre ISL G is rated at 320 hp and can use either compressed or liquefied natural gas. It's fully EPA2010-compliant, Mack announced.... The new offering is expected to be popular with municipalities and refuse haulers contracted to municipalities with a mandate to pursue environmentally-friendly technologies... * Navistar to locate new testing, validation center in Melrose Park facility
Melrose Park,ILL,USA -The Trucker News Services -29 Oct 2010: -- Navistar International Corp. Friday announced the company’s intent to locate a new testing and validation center in Melrose Park at a facility that has been part of Navistar’s history for nearly 65 years... Daniel C. Ustian, Navistar chairman, president and chief executive officer, said the company plans to invest up to $90 million in the 80-acre campus over the next several years to create a state-of-the-art technology center that celebrates the company’s heritage while developing leading-edge commercial truck and diesel engine solutions to meet the needs of today’s — and tomorrow’s — customers... The company’s plans for Melrose Park will enable Navistar to expand its leadership as a heavy duty, environmentally concerned vehicle manufacturer. A portion of the campus will be dedicated to creating the next generation of commercial trucks and buses, including hybrid and electric vehicles, state-of-the-art emissions controls and the latest in diesel engine technology. Consistent with Navistar’s reputation as an environmental leader, the facility’s exterior will include new green space, walking trails and approximately 10 acres of restored native prairie land. The building also will house a museum that will highlight the company’s rich and storied history...
* Cummins to buy buildings in plan to add professional workers
Columbus,IN,USA -Fleet Owner -Oct 27, 2010: -- Cummins Inc. has reached an agreement to purchase two downtown office buildings in Columbus, IN, in anticipation of adding as many as 350 new employees to the company’s headquarters workforce. The company, which employs about 6,000 in Indiana, has been moving employees into a downtown Columbus building since 2009... Cummins said that building is expected to reach its capacity by 2011. With the expectation of strong business growth over the next several years, particularly overseas, the global engine manufacturer felt it need more space...
